Elena Sloman was born and raised in Sonoma County where her first conducting experiences were at the summer music programs of the local youth orchestra and at a Waldorf high school where she directed the pit orchestra for the school musical her senior year. Elena studied oboe performance at the USC Thornton School of Music, where she took conducting courses with Sharon Lavery. She earned her Master’s in oboe performance at the Eastman School of Music, where she had the opportunity to observe weekly conducting masterclasses by Neil Varon and Brad Lubman through playing in the Graduate Conducting Orchestra. She is a substitute conductor for the Santa Rosa Symphony Debut Orchestra and coaches sectionals for youth ensembles in Santa Rosa and Napa. Elena is very excited to have the opportunity to work with the wonderful musicians of CWO!
